This innovative interpretation of Tchaikovsky 's fairytale ballet is filled with the anticipation of presents and parties, boyfriends and innocent dreams of romance. The magic for Clara begins as her Uncle Drosselmeyer and a guardian angel give her a special gift of a Nutcracker doll. An enchanted fairytale dream is conjured as Clara and her Nutcracker defeat marauding mice, dance with the Snow Queen and her prince and her innocent quest for romance comes to a fantasy finale in the Kingdom of Sweets.
The Youth & Community Trust in association with Nelson Underage are proud to present The Project 2K14, the biggest U18'S dance event to hit the shores of Nelson in late September.
Flying in an array of internationally recognized DJ's from the U18's Event Scene in Australia, The Project will see a spectacular lineup built from international, national and local DJ's, featuring:

With Stars in our eyes and dreams in our hearts we STEP into the world of make believe to make all our wishes come true. The music inspires, the dance motivates and the lights and costumes provide a visual fantasy. The choreography brings together all 5 points of our very special STAR.

Director Gillian Francis has consistently achieved a very high standard from her very creative and talented students (ranging from the ages of 3 to their mid-20's) over many years and this year's programme includes beautiful choreography, costuming, backdrops, lighting and sound. A superb evening of entertainment not to be missed!
About The Star Seed story...
One day, deep in the heart of the New Zealand bush, a seed falls from the stars. From this seed, a tree grows at a feverish pace until, from its fruit, a Star Girl emerges. Someone is watching this magic most intently, a boy from Earth. By and by, the Star Girl and the Earth Boy fall in love, but darkness threatens, and the boy must go on an adventure through the native landscapes he thought he knew in order to save the girl.

This modern fairy tale is told through mime, acro-balance, aerial silk work and live music. A quaintly epic adventure that is warm, surprising and elegantly beautiful. An international cast of enormous experience pool their talents to create a visual feast for all ages.

Nelson Underage in association with Mad Beat HipHop presents WORD ON THE STREET Nelson's Largest Hiphop Showcase.
With the main event created exclusively for high school aged students, we've teamed up with Mad Beat to open up 'Word on the Street' to include a special one hour teaser performance for all families and school aged children keen to come and support some of the best hiphop crews Nelson has to offer.
Kicking off at 3:30pm, the afternoon will showcase performances by Madbeats Mega Crew, New Crew, Fusion & Origin Dance Crew, plus feature an array of local artists rep'n some of the best Hiphop performances in Nelson.
Performances from all crews will include sets they're taking up to the Street Dance National Championships in Auckland the following weekend.

Vast Dance Festival celebrates the combined talents of high school students in the "Top of the South" region.
The annual performance showcases students from Waimea College, Nayland College, Garin College, Motueka High School, Salisbury School, Marlborough College for Girls and Marlborough College for Boys and Nelson College.
For the 2014 show, we hope to also include schools from the West Coast, Golden Bay and Marlborough regions - widening the youth dance network in our beautiful region.

Fresh from their acclaimed performances at the Holland Dance Festival, The New Zealand Dance Company brings their virtuosic choreography and stunning design in Language of Living, direct to the heart of New Zealand.
In a five centre, one night only tour, New Zealanders can experience the brave and beautiful performances showcased in Language of Living; a remarkable presentation of new and inspired dance by our finest artistic athletes.
Language of Living comprises of five short works by established and internationally recognised Arts Laureates Shona McCullagh and Michael Parmenter, alongside mid-career choreographer Sarah Foster-Sproull, and emerging choreographers Justin Haiu and Tupua Tigafua.
The company's vision for creative alchemy combines stunning costume, video, set and sound design, featuring compositions by Gareth Farr, CPE Bach, The Electric Boutique, Vivaldi, Sekai Mailata and Eden Mullholland.
