Capital E National Theatre for Children
Brace yourselves for a ridiculously clever play that will transport you to World War One to follow a story of two young men; one a keen enlister, the other a conscientious objector.
As suitcases transform to trenches and coats become a map of Europe, their stories collide on Flanders Field. Through energetic songs and moments of Pythonesque vaudeville, this ensemble beautifully shares unforgettable stories.
"It's far funnier than a show about that war has any right to be, yet the silliness seems somehow respectful, a fitting tribute to the exuberant young men who sailed away from Wellington harbour in search of adventure." THEATREVIEW

A Silo Theatre Production
By Kip Chapman with Todd Emerson & Sophie Roberts
Starring Todd Emerson & Chris Parker
And we're live! The oven's caught fire, David is drinking and Peter has bad news.
In this immersive work, co-created by theatrical daredevil Kip Chapman (That Bloody Woman), Hudson & Halls Live! gives us a glimpse into the lives of two of New Zealand's trailblazing personalities at a pivotal point in their career and relationship. It's the Christmas special and they're up to their eyeballs in turkey stuffing and melting cream castles!
Long before Masterchef and My Kitchen Rules there was Hudson and Halls. In the closet with the door wide open, Peter Hudson and David Halls were New Zealand's original great gay love story - and two of our greatest entertainers.
Hudson & Halls Live! has left audiences all around the country in stitches and coming back for more. Prepare to be transported to a 1980's television studio for big laughs, rum-fuelled showdowns, and some very questionable cooking.
"It's very, very, very funny… Theatre rarely gets much better than this." METRO MAGAZINE
"HUDSON & HALLS LIVE! is one of the best shows I've seen this year, and maybe the best show. It is enormously entertaining, profoundly sad and a loving homage to two New Zealand icons." THE PANTOGRAPH PUNCH

Nayland College presents one of Broadway's biggest hit musicals Bye Bye Birdie!
This loving send-up of the late 1950s in small town America centres around an Elvis Presley type rock and roll superstar (Conrad Birdie) who is drafted into the army. His agent and song writer (Albert Peterson) and Albert's secretary and love interest (Rosie Alvarez) plan a farewell performance for Birdie on the Ed Sullivan television show and they hope the performance will provide the publicity to sell Albert's new song 'One Last Kiss' and bring Albert's company out of debt. At the conclusion of the performance, Birdie will give a real kiss to a lucky girl from his fan club!
Bye Bye Birdie continues to thrill audiences around the world with its tuneful high-energy score, hilarious script and hit songs include 'Put on a Happy Face', 'One Last Kiss', 'One Boy', 'A Lot of Livin' to Do', 'Kids!, and 'Rose'. Not to be missed!
Nelson Repertory Theatre presents Love, Love, Love , a play that is so titled, in part, because of the lyrics in the Beatles song All You Need Is Love.
London, 1967. Beatlemania is in full effect, the "Me" generation is in its prime and Kenneth and Sandra have the world at their fingertips. It's the summer of love, and that's all they need. But what will happen when the sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll fade away and these boomers have babies of their own?
Love, Love, Love is the "riveting and exhilarating" (The Guardian) comedy from Olivier Award winner Mike Bartlett. Hugh Neill directs Love Love Love and lays bare the consequences of growing older without growing up!
Irish comedian, Ed Byrne, celebrates his 20 year love affair with NZ audiences with his 7th tour down under, headlining the 2017 NZ International Comedy Festival.
Back in 1996, when he first toured to New Zealand, stand-up comedy was the new rock 'n roll and Ed lived hard and fast like a would-be rock star. Twenty years on times have changed. Ed is not only a family man, he has also now embraced the great outdoors and can often be found scaling mountain peaks around the world.
But one thing that hasn't changed is that Ed has always felt like an outsider looking at a world within. This perspective has made him one of the keenest and most in demand observational comedians in the UK and a frequent guest on notable TV and radio shows such as Mock the Week, Live at The Apollo, The Graham Norton Show and Have I Got News For You?.
In 2017 Ed returns to NZ with his new show, 'Outside Looking In' which he has been touring to sold out houses around the UK over the last 12 months.
"A masterful display of the comics art… This is a seamless and perfectly timed show that could stand proudly next to any Izzard, Bailey, Carr or Skinner stadium-filler" - Sunday Times
"Hilarious anecdotes! I assure you Ed Byrne is one comedian you should DEFINITELY see" - Edinburgh Festival Magazine
"Jokes come so fast that hecklers don't have a chance to get a word in edgeways" - The Times
"Byrne is at the top of his game" - Sunday Telegraph
"It is rare for a comic to merit the word "masterful" but in this case it is no overstatement" - The Scotsman
He will be reunited with local producer, Scott Blanks, who was instrumental in getting Ed to New Zealand 20 years ago, joining him in the celebrations of the 20th year at The Classic, New Zealand's own class home of comedy.
A comedy about love, death and preserves
Rip the lid off a jar of utterly delicious theatre, bursting with wit, wonder and the faint whiff of death.
Sasha, the blind receptionist of the crumbling Empire Hotel, knows she is cursed – everything she loves dies. But when true love finds her, she can’t help falling. One night, Death checks into the hotel.
Belly laughs combine with throat-catching pathos to create a sophisticated modern fable that is “an intelligent and hilarious celebration of human resilience” – The Scotsman
The Pickle King is Indian Ink’s most awarded play; winning an Edinburgh Fringe First, a record seven nominations at the Chapman Tripp Theatre Awards and the supreme accolade – Production of the Year.
For our twentieth anniversary we’ve made a significant change in this vintage Indian Ink script to centre the love story around a same sex couple. Whilst this contemporary update would have been a real statement 15 years ago – today it just reflects the diverse culture of New Zealand.
All wrapped up “in a package of good plain laughs, luminous performances and brilliant staging” (Dominion Post) this timeless tale highlights the injustices of immigration and globalisation, and having the courage to love, no matter your gender.

Roger Hall's hugely successful, sell-out hit comedy is hitting the road in 2017, promising big laughs and nights of fun in 28 venues around the country.
Venice! Rome! Tuscany!
It's 2007 and guide book in hand, retired librarians Alison and Adrian, are excitedly embarking on their long-awaited (and carefully saved-for) Italian trip of a life-time. But when their best friends pull out at the last minute, they find themselves sharing their precious holiday with their neighbours - Harry, a wealthy plumber and his new wife Judy.
As these delightfully mismatched couples valiantly negotiate the pit-falls of a later-in-life OE it's not just the Italians the intrepid travellers have to deal with - it's also each other!
Adrian and Alison have a dark secret that is causing them some strife and Harry, who loves his rugby, has a dream. But there are surprises in store!
Will the trials and tribulations of their cherished Italian sojourn prove a 'make or break' for our Kiwi quartet? Will the holiday be heaven or hell, or both?
Blending cracker one-liners with lots of laughs and astute observation FOUR FLAT WHITES IN ITALY is classic Roger Hall, as he again deftly satirizes our manners, morals, loves and lusts in this highly entertaining treat.
This season of FOUR FLAT WHITES sees some fabulous new faces in the line-up, bringing together a great cast of talented Kiwi actors.
Fresh from their sold out tour of Grease, Paul Barrett and Lyndee-Jane Rutherford will be joined by Phil Grieve and Hilary Norris and directed by unstoppable talent, Geraldine Brophy.

All he needs to do is keep his two guvnors apart. Simple.
