The National Youth Brass Band (NYBB) are a talented group of young brass musicians from all around Aotearoa New Zealand, who will be performing in Nelson on Friday Jan 30th 2015.
Summon the Heroes is the theme of the 2015 Tour, marking the forthcoming 100th anniversary of the ANZAC landing at Gallipoli, and featuring a range of music both evocative and modern that will appeal to all ages. The concert will also showcase the talents of some of the outstanding soloists within the band.
The NYBB is auditioned, and assembles annually for a period of intense rehearsal and training, under the musical direction of Peter Adams, Associate Professor of Music, University of Otago, and assisted by a range of tutors from the NZ School of Music, NZSO, and leading NZ brass bands.
The NYBB performs at a very high level of musicianship, notwithstanding the youthful makeup of the Band. The band is an eclectic mix of talented young New Zealanders up to age 22. Some band members are still at secondary school, and some are at university studying engineering, design, commerce, medicine or law. Others are working in a variety of employment.

After spending the last few months touring across the USA as special guests of Sam Smith, next February Broods will return home for their biggest New Zealand tour to date; taking in six major centres and performing to all age crowds everywhere!

This year's breakout headline tour sold out at lightning speed and further shows had to be added to meet public demand. This time Caleb and Georgia Nott AKA Broods will bring their outstanding show to Wellington, Nelson, Christchurch, New Plymouth, Auckland and Hamilton.

The duos' career to date has been fast paced and high impact. Debut album Evergreen was released in August and included massive hits 'Bridges', 'Never Gonna Change', 'Mother & Father' and brand new single 'L.A.F'. Produced by prominent New Zealander Joel Little, the album went straight to #1 on the NZ Top 40, Top 5 in Australia and Top 40 on the US Billboard Hot 100 charts and cemented Broods as ones to watch.

They've also toured with the likes of Ellie Goulding, HAIM, CHVRCHES and there are more overseas dates to be announced. Performing live is where Broods have found their natural home "Touring has made us realise how important it is to not just be yourself, but to back yourself." Georgia says. "If you're not being true, you'll never stand out." Over an ever-growing itinerary of performances across the globe the bands' sound and light show has become crucial. They've had to learn how to dance like no-one is watching and sing like no-one is listening "We've loosened up a lot," says Caleb "We're in the moment and we're focussed on making it special every time."

Burnin' swing numbers, sexy salsa groves, beautiful ballads and authentic Las Vegas humour...
Sons of Sinatra is a high-energy musical tribute to the young lions of jazz singing, who today uphold the marvellous vocal tradition set down by the one-and-only Frank Sinatra. You'll hear the best of jazz vocal superstars Michael Buble, Harry Connick Jr, and Jamie Cullum performed by vocalist James Tait-Jamieson and an incredible seven-piece band. All your favourite songs - New York New York, My Way, It Had To Be You, Whisper Your Name, Fever, Sway and Moondance...and even a few duets with beautiful guest vocalist Tessa Quayle. This show has it all!

James Tait-Jamieson - vocal, sax, Rodger Fox - trombone & band leader, Lex French - trumpet, Jake Baxendale - sax, Dan Hayles - piano, Jacqui Nyman - guitar, Lauren Ellis - drums.

BUDDY - THE BUDDY HOLLY STORY tours New Zealand in March and April 2015, taking in 21 venues around the country.

Experience the drama, passion and excitement as a cast of phenomenally talented actors and musicians tell Buddy Holly's story, from his meteoric rise to fame, to his final legendary performance at The Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa.

Featuring two terrific hours of the greatest songs ever written, including That'll Be The Day, Oh Boy, Rave On, La Bamba, Chantilly Lace, Johnny B. Goode, Raining In My Heart, Everyday, Shout and many many more, this show is just Peggy Sue-perb!

With the Big Bopper's Chantilly Lace and Ritchie Valens' La Bamba completing a stellar musical line-up, BUDDY - THE BUDDY HOLLY STORY is a not to be missed evening of family entertainment.

It's been 11 years since our homegrown, gloebtrotting act Minuit released their debut album, The 88.

In 2003, tunes like 'Menace', 'Except You', 'Body-Shaped Box', and 'The Boy With The Aubergine Hair' popped up out of nowhere thanks to a loyal live following and a spooky music video directed by Alyx Duncan. Released on record label Tardus, the album went gold.

Herald reviewer Russell Baillie wrote: "Minuit have something many electronic acts studiously avoid - a sense of personality."

Minuit went on to release four albums, multiple EPs & remixes and toured the world with their unique sound.

Describing their third album Find Me Before I Die A Lonely Death dot com, Rolling Stone magazine pointed out: "despite an album title as dark as midnight, Minuits music is often as joyful as a fat kid with cake."

To celebrate and say "cheers" Minuit are doing a handful of shows - then they're out. Yes, the kiwi band with the french name, are calling last drinks. Leaving a legacy of macabre media photos, eery music videos, the smouldering groove of 'Aotearoa', and memorably rib-rattling live shows.

And this is where it all began, Nelson, where Minuit's first EP was actually a demo tape to get to play at the seminal NYE festival, The Gathering.

Being November the 1st, All Saints Day, it's fitting that they chose to go out with a Day of the Dead Masquerade Ball.

Costumes / masks / makeup are encouraged. And the "Skeleton Crew" will be in attendance to face paint if you are in need. A Mexican themed bar will be in place courtesy of Elsewhere. With DJ support from Serpico Beats and CIA. 8pm until the stroke of midnight.

Expect the unexpected and come and give Minuit an exhilerating send off.

This will be their Final Fling. Tickets are limited. Do not miss out.

Rockshop Bandquest is a new platform for the next generation of contemporary musicians to step out and perform in a supportive and encouraging competition format, with a focus on education, inspiration and entertainment.

Nelson Underage in collaboration with smokefreerockquest are proud to present hometown hero’s, the Broods performing at Nelson’s Iconic Theatre Royal on June 21st.

Georgia Nott, from Broods says they are looking forward to their home town gig, which comes hot on the heels of the band supporting Ellie Goulding’s arena tour of Australia and New Zealand.

“We've been nagging our management to make a Nelson gig happen, and we're now so excited to finally get to return home to play for our family and friends,” she says. “It's made even more special to be invited by the Pete and Glenn at Smokefreerockquest to whom we owe so much."

Georgia and Caleb were members of the Garin College indie rock band, The Peasants, who won Smokefreerockquest in 2011. They formed Broods in early 2013 and began collaborating with Lorde’s music producer Joel Little.

They’ve since signed worldwide deals with major record labels in the UK and USA, and toured in the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and had sell out shows in the US.

Broods self-titled debut EP charted at #1 on the iTunes album chart in New Zealand, as well as #2 in the National Album charts.  Their debut single Bridges peaked at #5 on the New Zealand singles chart and had over a million plays on Spotify worldwide. Broods songs have over 1 million plays on Soundcloud.

Nelson Underage organiser Nathan Telford says the suggestion to bring Broods to Nelson came out of discussions with the Nelson City Youth Council. “When we were looking at which performers to use, Broods were a clear favourite,” he says.
