Talented performers from throughout the region perform Classical Ballet, Lyrical, Contemporary, Hip Hop and Jazz numbers.

Following a successful year with performances throughout NZ, the dancers are excited to showcase their talents and what they have achieved this year, from beginners through to senior dancers looking ahead to further their dancing overseas

The Night before Christmas... follow a little girl's journey through the excitement and magic of Christmas Eve, an adventure in Toyland and her journey to the North Pole to visit Santa and his Elves.

This show promises all the excitement and magic of Christmas and is suitable for all ages. Told through the medium of ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary, cheerleading, hip hop and Irish dance, singing and drama performed by the students of the ASTAR Academy of the Arts.

Rebecca Bignall Boutique Dance Company will perform Excerpts from The Sleeping Beauty - a Tchaikovsky Ballet first performed in 1890. Sleeping Beauty is a classic fairy tale which involves a beautiful princess (Aurora), a sleeping enchantment, and a handsome prince. A world of romance, wonder and imperial grandeur. Gleaming with colour and fairies and story-book charm, this showcase the talents of the entire Boutique Company and brings this fairy tale to life on stage.

The Company will also showcase their award winning Contemporary/Jazz pieces.

Ballet Director Louise Hawke presents The Ballet Arts Company & Sir Jon Trimmer in "Alice" - A Ballet Wonderland Dream for All with Sir Jon Trimmer as Lewis Carroll, Laeticia Austin as Alice, Andre the Illusionist and Adriana Harper (Royal NZ Ballet).

Following 2017 sell-out performances of Swan Lake, Moscow Ballet la Classique returns to New Zealand to present the jewel of classical ballet, Tchaikovsky's spectacular masterpiece The Nutcracker

La Classique was founded in 1990 by its current director Elik Melikov. La Classique with its artistic ballet mastery, lavish costumes and magnificent stage sets will take us on a journey back in time to the frost-covered, gas lit world of Clara, her beloved Nutcracker doll and the magician Drosselmeyer.

This romantic tale with its blend of magic and realism brings to life the popular Tchaikovsky score featuring the famous "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" and "The Waltz of the Flowers."

Nelson Academy of Dance proudly presents the fairy tale of love and magic Cinderella the Ballet. The ultimate rags to riches fairy tale is a delight for the whole family!

A dazzling night, featuring Prokofiev's beautiful music, a glittering ball, something wonderful is sure to happen as Cinderella and her Prince Charming dance in this year's full length classic ballet. The performance will present dance students as the featured performers in this authentic full length ballet.

Director Gillian Francis has consistently achieved a very high standard from her very creative and talented students (ranging from the ages of 3 to their mid-20s) over many years and this year's Cinderella includes beautiful choreography, costuming, backdrops, lighting and sound. Enjoy winter in Nelson in grand style, making memories to cherish with the ones you love.

The Royal New Zealand Ballet is delighted to present Tutus on Tour, the legendary regional touring programme, in a new format for 2017.

Tutus on Tour brings dancers from the RNZB into seven regional centres, including Nelson, with performances tailor-made for smaller venues and suitable for all ages.

A fantastic opportunity to see your critically-acclaimed national ballet company performing highlights from their extensive repertoire, including classical and contemporary favourites and new works.

Peter Pan, a free spirited and mischievous young boy who can fly and never grows up, spends his never-ending childhood having adventures on the mystical island of Neverland as the leader of the lost Boys, interacting with fairies, pirates, mermaids, Native American Indians, and occasionally ordinary children from the world outside Neverland. Featuring some of our promising ballet dancers in this dramatic and fun filled adventure.

Showcase: Jazz and Contemporary students aged 5-16 years showcase their skill, precision, technique and focus in a variety of dance styles. Concluding with a Finale performance from our very own Rebecca Bignall Boutique Dance Company.

The Showcase demonstrates how hard they have worked this year and clearly they have loved every minute of their performance.

Tchaikovsky as you have never seen him! This original ballet production reveals his anguish and his artistry told in the composer's own words. The haunting themes for Swan Lake were composed for his nieces at play. His marriage provided a comical disaster. A mysterious Baroness was his devoted sponsor. They never met. Their personal letters reveal a story.
