Public Event Restrictions
LEVEL 1
The Theatre is open to the public for live performances with no social distancing requirements or gathering limits.
Increased cleaning, contact tracing, and personal hygiene practices remain in place. Unwell persons should remain at home.
LEVEL 2
The theatre is closed to the public for live performances.
Backstage may be occupied under the level 2 restrictions as listed below
LEVEL 3 & 4
All aspects of the theatre facility are closed.
Backstage Restrictions
LEVEL 1
The Theatre is open to the public for live performances with no social distancing requirements or gathering limits.
Increased cleaning, contact tracing, and personal hygiene practices remain in place. Unwell persons should remain at home.
LEVEL 2
While performances with an audience may not proceed at level 2, a company may: Pack in, rehearse, film, or pack-out, providing they meet the criteria as set out by the Ministry of Health and clarified here with details specific to our venue:
Personal conduct
- Regularly wash your hands
- Sneeze and cough into your elbow
- Wear a face covering if you can
- If you are unwell, stay home
Contact Tracing
- All members accessing backstage are to sign in to our facility by the usual means and with the NZ COVID App.
- Please sanitize your hands after signing in.
Social Distancing
- Maintain 1m social distancing at all times, and 2m whenever possible.
- Max 2 people per dressing room
- Max 20 people backstage at any time.
- Avoid congregating in corridors to allow people the capacity to pass.
- Where distancing is not possible due to the nature of work – i.e a task that requires two or more people to be in close proximity (i.e set construction, technical rigging, hair styling etc.) – then individuals should wear a suitable face covering and possibly gloves.
- Technical operating positions should be spaced by 2m.
Cleanliness of objects and surfaces
- All surfaces and objects should be regularly cleaned and disinfected.
Include all common touchpoints like handrails, light switches, etc. - Gloves should be worn when working with items that are handled by multiple people in quick succession.
- This includes lighting fixtures, cables, etc; set or props; or indeed, any object being handed from person to person, ie while packing into the theatre.
Technical Operating Equipment
- Clean all operating equipment with a sanitizing wipe before first use and after last. Ensure hands have been recently washed and sanitized.
- This includes consoles, touchscreens, wall panels, and fly tower rope locks.
- Only persons responsible for a department should be touching equipment relating to their area. For example:
- Fly to be solely responsible for Fly Tower rope locks
- SX to be solely responsible for their console and equipment
- LX to be solely responsible for their console and equipment
LEVEL 3
Under Level 3, the Theatre Royal facility is closed to all activities.
Change of Levels
Level 1 > 2
If an increase in level is announced while operating under Level 1:
- All public shows programmed after the date of level 2 coming into effect are canceled, effective immediately. If the option of ticket-holders transferring to remaining dates exists, this will be discussed.
- If the company is 20 members or less, they may choose to may remain in the venue after the date of level 2 coming into effect, for the purpose of filming their performance, before packing out.
- Pack-out may occur under Level 2 restrictions, providing the crew necessary total less than 20, including the required venue staff.
Level 2 > 3
If an increase in level is announced while operating under Level 2 any company in occupancy must begin pack out immediately.
