BYRNE FAMILY STORY

Our Family's Connection to the Theatre Royal

If you search the August 1965 PhotoNews, Dad appears as a thin Gendarme in a French comedy called Topaze. We didn't know he acted. Our Dad did the lights. From a corner of the dark auditorium he made magic onstage.

The Theatre Royal was Home

My twin and I willingly traded our end-of-intermediate camp to be part of A Christmas Carol - or was it Jack and the Beanstalk? We talked a lot: in the Green Room; onstage;  trying costumes on. Quiet descended as we waited in the wings to go on.

Welcome Back

After more than 30 years absence, I've stepped back into the Theatre Royal - now all the hard work's been done. Dad's gone but there's a seat with his name on it. I'm a Theatre Royal volunteer because this place is big enough to hold all our memories. It belongs to all who've touched its magic, or who want to recreate it. Our family is embarassed to have our wee story up here - Mum only agreed if Dad's story was going to be one of many. To placate our Mum, can you please share ...
